Chai latte near Platja d'Aro: what's out there and what's worth it

If you've searched for chai latte in Platja d'Aro, you've probably encountered versions made with syrup. A splash of sweet concentrate in warm milk. It works, but it's not the same as a masala chai made with a real spice blend.

The difference isn't subtle. Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper — together, in proportion. That's what real chai tastes like.

What makes a good chai latte

  1. The spices have to actually be there. A properly made chai uses a masala blend — cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, and pepper — not a sweetened concentrate from a bottle.
  2. The supplier matters. The chai we use at Dirty Rabbit is from Awachai, a producer in Isère, France, with a 100% organic blend. Not what you'll find at most chains.
  3. Cold works just as well. Iced chai isn't just a summer option — we have it available year-round because the spices hold up perfectly cold.

Where to find good chai latte near Platja d'Aro

Dirty Rabbit is in S'Agaró, Avinguda Platja d'Aro 275 — about 10 minutes by car from central Platja d'Aro.

We opened on 1 November 2024. Awachai's organic masala chai has been on the menu from day one. We serve it three ways: classic chai latte (hot or iced), iced chai year-round, and dirty chai — which is the chai latte with a shot of La Cabra espresso. That last one is something. Plant milk available in all versions. Price: €3.50 to €5.

In central Platja d'Aro there are cafés. Good for sitting out with seafront views. For chai made with real spices, the 10-minute detour is worth it.

Why chai latte is everywhere but good chai is rare

Chai latte became popular in Spain well before matcha. That has upsides and downsides. Upside: you can order it almost anywhere. Downside: most versions going around are syrup in warm milk, which has little to do with what masala chai actually is.

The problem is cost and interest. A quality organic spice blend costs more than a bottle of concentrate, and many places don't believe the customer will notice the difference. Sometimes they're right. But anyone who's had chai with real spices notices.

Frequently asked questions about chai latte near Platja d'Aro

Is there anywhere near Platja d'Aro that serves chai with real spices instead of syrup?

Most versions in central Platja d'Aro use syrup or concentrate. The nearest option with real organic masala chai is Dirty Rabbit in S'Agaró, about 10 minutes away.

How much does a chai latte cost in the area?

At Dirty Rabbit, between €3.50 and €5 depending on the version. Classic chai latte is at the lower end; dirty chai (with espresso) is at the top.

Can I order iced chai outside of summer?

Yes. At Dirty Rabbit iced chai is available year-round. The masala spices work just as well cold — it's not a seasonal version.

What is dirty chai and is it worth ordering?

It's a chai latte with an added shot of espresso. The coffee is from La Cabra (Madrid). It's a strange combination in theory and a very good one in practice — for anyone who wants the energy of coffee but with spice flavour rather than pure bitterness.
