LOCAL GUIDE · SPECIALTY COFFEE
Best Specialty Coffee in Girona
Girona is the specialty coffee capital of Catalonia outside Barcelona. Small city, beautiful old town, and an international cycling community that has transformed the coffee scene. Here are the best options — and a reason to head to the coast afterwards.
☕ La Fábrica — The OG specialty café in Girona
Carrer de la Llebre, 3, Girona
La Fábrica is legend. Opened March 2015 by former pro cyclist Christian Meier and his wife Amber, in a converted carpenter's workshop with stone walls. Bike pump at the door, borrowable cable locks, and over 90 professional cyclists among their regulars.
They roast under the Approachable Coffee label on a 15-kilo Joper roaster. The coffee reaches Barcelona, Jakarta, Portland, and Vienna. Amber bakes the pastries in her own oven. The atmosphere makes you want to stay.
Best for: House espresso with one of Amber's pastries. Pure Girona.
☕ Espresso Mafia — The experimental sibling
Carrer de la Cort Reial, 5, Girona · 2 min walk from La Fábrica
Espresso Mafia is La Fábrica's second venue, opened 2017. More modern, smaller, no Wi-Fi. Up to 5 different coffees available, tasting flights, seasonal nitro coffee. Custom two-group Sanremo Cafe Racer machine.
Best for: Tasting flights to compare different roasts.
☕ Oniria Café — Rotating European roasters
Carrer del Nord, 11, Girona
Opened 2021, Oniria is a small, intimate café with rotating guest roasters from across Europe. Raw vegan and sugar-free pastries, conscious atmosphere. They sell beans for home brewing. Pet-friendly, small terrace.
Best for: Discovering a European roaster you didn't know.
☕ Originem — Km0 and sustainability
Carrer de la Força, 1, A, Girona
Sustainable km0 café in Girona's old town. Handmade ceramic cups, regional products, zero-waste. Sourdough toast, Catalan pastries (xuixo!), original stone walls and wooden beams. Also a small shop with local products.
☕ Hors Catégorie — The cyclists' café
Carrer del Perill, 3, Girona
Named after cycling's toughest climb category. Nomad Coffee from Barcelona on a Rocket Espresso machine. Healthy food, craft beer, cycling memorabilia. Open late, perfect for a post-ride beer.
🐇 Dirty Rabbit — If you're heading to the coast
Avenida Platja d'Aro 275, S'Agaró · 35 min drive from Girona
If after Girona you fancy beach and the best coffee on Costa Brava, Dirty Rabbit is 35 minutes away in S'Agaró.
We serve La Cabra — the Danish roaster competing at the same level as Approachable. Full traceability, precision roasting, prepared on our La Marzocco KB90 with RO-filtered water.
Combine a day in Girona with an S'Agaró sunset: coffee, swim at Sant Pol, Camí de Ronda. Perfect plan.
Our three pillars
- Wild Comfort — A place that's wild and cosy at once.
- Intention — Everything we do has a why.
- Belonging — A place where you fit in, wherever you're from.
