Best Brunch in Platja d'Aro

Platja d'Aro is the tourist heart of the central Costa Brava. Hotels, shops, nightlife... and a varied food offering. This guide focuses on what matters to us: where to have a good brunch. We've tried the options, compared prices, and we're telling you what we found.

Brunch in Platja d'Aro: Context

Platja d'Aro is a tourist town. That means:

  • Lots of choice — There are dozens of places to eat
  • Variable quality — Some survive on tourists who won't return
  • Tourist prices — Especially on the beachfront
  • Seasonality — In winter, many close

But there are also places that take brunch seriously. They're fewer, you have to look for them, but they exist.

The Best Brunches in Platja d'Aro and Surroundings

🐇 Dirty Rabbit — S'Agaró (5 min from Platja d'Aro)

Avenida Platja d'Aro 275, S'Agaró · Google Maps

Technically it's not in Platja d'Aro, but in S'Agaró (5 minutes by car). But if you're looking for the best brunch in the area, the short drive is worth it.

What makes Dirty Rabbit different:

The coffee is La Cabra — a Danish roaster that's consistently among the best in the world. We prepare it on a La Marzocco KB90 with reverse osmosis filtered water. It's not just "good" coffee — it's single-origin coffee, traceable, processed with precision.

The food follows the same philosophy:

  • Benfumat smoked salmon — The best smoked salmon in Catalonia
  • La Puntual pastries — Artisan bakery from Girona
  • Origo Bakery sourdough bread — Barcelona
  • REQ matcha — Organic, real quality
  • Awachai chai — Spiced as it should be

Typical brunch:

  • Avocado toast with poached eggs
  • Toast with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers
  • Yoghurt bowl with fresh fruit and granola
  • Assorted pastries (croissant, pain au chocolat)

Atmosphere: Relaxed but considered. Terrace for sunny days. 3 minutes from Sant Pol Beach.

Languages: Spanish, Catalan, English, Polish. Menus in Russian, French, Ukrainian.

Average price: €15–22 per person (drink + main dish)

Booking required? Not for brunch — first come, first served. In summer there may be some wait at 11:00–13:00.

Carrer Juli Garreta, 10, Platja d'Aro · In the centre

What they serve:

  • Own coffee — Roasted next door, very fresh
  • Açaí bowls — Colourful, good

  • Natural juices

Atmosphere: Cyclist. The name comes from the Giro's pink jersey. Saturday mornings have gravel and road cycling groups. Large terrace.

Average price: €12–18 per person

Sunday Brunch: Our Recommendations

For Couples

Dirty Rabbit → La Cabra coffee, toast with salmon, quiet terrace. Then head down to Sant Pol for a walk.

For Families with Children

La Maglia → Large terrace, colourful açaí bowls that children love, relaxed noise tolerance.

For Groups of Friends

La Maglia or Dirty Rabbit → Both have space and can handle groups without booking (though better to arrive early).

For Coeliacs

ANNNA → No question. Everything gluten-free, everything artisan.

For a Special Occasion

Villamás → Brunch with sea views. Not specialty coffee, but the experience makes up for it.

After Training

La Maglia → Açaí bowls, juices, cyclist atmosphere. They understand post-workout hunger.

What We DON'T Recommend

Let's be honest: Platja d'Aro has many mediocre places that survive on tourists. Avoid:

  • All-inclusive hotel buffets — Quantity over quality
  • Beachfront cafés — Inflated prices, machine coffee
  • Industrial pastry chains — Frozen pastries

We won't name specific places to avoid damaging anyone. But if the menu is in 6 languages with laminated photos, it's probably not what you're looking for.

Our Final Recommendation

If you're only going to have one brunch in Platja d'Aro:

Dirty Rabbit — 5 minutes of travel that's worth it. La Cabra coffee (world top), Benfumat salmon (top Catalonia), La Puntual pastries (Girona), and 3 minutes from Sant Pol for afterwards.

If you're in the centre and don't want to move:

La Maglia — Quality own-roasted coffee, active atmosphere, healthy options.

If you're coeliac:

ANNNA — The best (and almost only) serious option in the area.
