Things to do in Sant Feliu de Guíxols

Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a real Costa Brava town — not a resort built for tourists. Authentic fishing port, thousand-year-old Benedictine monastery, cork-making heritage, and a local life that continues year-round. This is where Catalans come for their holidays.

🏛️ The Benedictine monastery

The monastery of Sant Feliu dates from the 10th century. It's the historic heart of the town. The Romanesque church, the cloister, and the history museum are worth visiting. Entry is free on certain days.

The Porta Ferrada, the pre-Romanesque entrance gate, is one of the oldest monuments in Catalonia. Every summer, the Porta Ferrada music festival hosts concerts in an exceptional setting.

⚓ The port and seafront

The port of Sant Feliu is still an active fishing port. Early in the morning, you can watch the boats come in with their catch. The fish auction (la llotja) is open to the public on certain days.

The Passeig del Mar (seafront promenade) runs along the beach to the port. Perfect for a stroll, with views of the sea and colourful facades.

🥾 Camí de Ronda to S'Agaró

The stretch of Camí de Ronda between Sant Feliu and S'Agaró is spectacular. About 30-45 minutes' walk along the cliffs, with sea views and hidden coves along the way.

  • Start: From Sant Feliu beach, heading south
  • End: Platja de Sant Pol or Cala Sa Conca
  • Difficulty: Moderate (stairs, uneven terrain in places)
  • Bring: Water, proper shoes. Swimming possible along the way.

🏖️ Beaches

  • Platja de Sant Feliu — The main beach, in the town centre. All services, but can be packed in summer.
  • Platja de Sant Pol (5 min drive) — More beautiful, more peaceful. Fine sand, crystal-clear waters, family atmosphere.
  • Camí de Ronda coves — Cala del Pi, Cala Pedrosa... Accessible on foot, often deserted.

🐇 Where to get good coffee

In Sant Feliu

  • ANNNA (Carrer de l'Hospital 21) — Specialty coffee, gluten-free bakery, concept store. In a beautiful 19th-century house. Open Thu-Mon.

💡 Local tips

  1. The port car park is most convenient for visiting the old town and monastery.
  2. Restaurants near the port serve fresh fish from the auction — ask for the "peix del dia".
  3. Combine with S'Agaró: Camí de Ronda → Sant Pol Beach → Brunch at Dirty Rabbit → Return by road.
  4. In summer, arrive early — parking fills up fast, especially on weekends.
