Things to do in Platja d'Aro
Platja d'Aro is the tourist heart of the Costa Brava: long sandy beach, lively promenade, shopping, nightlife... It's the quintessential beach resort. But beyond the shops and bars, there's also an authentic Costa Brava to discover just minutes away.
🏖️ The main beach
The Platja Gran of Platja d'Aro is a long fine sand beach, well-equipped: sun loungers, parasols, chiringuitos, showers. It's the classic Costa Brava family beach, with all services.
In peak season (July-August), it gets packed. For more peace and quiet, come early morning or try the neighbouring beaches: Sant Pol (5 min drive) or the coves of Calonge.
Tip: The seafront promenade is lovely in the evening — perfect for a post-dinner stroll.
🛍️ Shopping
Platja d'Aro is known for its shopping. The main avenue and side streets are packed with shops — from international brands to local boutiques.
- Gran Via — The main drag with major chains
- Pedestrian streets — Local shops, souvenirs, fashion
- Friday market — Weekly market with local produce and clothes
🌙 Nightlife
Platja d'Aro is the nightlife capital of the Costa Brava. Clubs and bars are concentrated around the port area and along the main avenue.
It's buzzing from June to September, peaking in July-August. If you're after peace and quiet, avoid the seafront on summer weekends.
🚴 Sports activities
- Cycling — Costa Brava is a world destination for road and gravel cycling. Platja d'Aro is a good starting point.
- Water sports — Jet ski, paddle, kayak available on the beach in summer.
- Golf — Several courses in the area (Club de Golf d'Aro, Mas Nou...).
- Hiking — The Camí de Ronda towards S'Agaró or Sant Feliu (25 min walk).
🐇 Our recommendation: escape for 5 minutes
For a more authentic Costa Brava experience, make the 5-minute trip to S'Agaró. The atmosphere is completely different: noucentiste architecture, Camí de Ronda, Sant Pol beach...
And of course, pop in for a coffee with us. Dirty Rabbit serves La Cabra coffee (Denmark) prepared on La Marzocco, with homemade brunch and a relaxed vibe.
