DIRTY RABBIT · S'AGARÓ
The best chai latte near Platja d'Aro
"The best" is an easy claim and a hard one to defend. We're not going to say we're the best chai latte in the area — that's not ours to say. What we can explain is what's in ours and why we chose it.
If you're in Platja d'Aro looking for something more than syrup in warm milk, the trip to S'Agaró makes sense.
What makes a good chai latte
- The base has to be a real spice blend, not a concentrate. Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper — each has a role. A chai syrup tastes sweet but doesn't taste like much in particular. That's the core difference.
- The supplier shapes the result. We use Awachai from Isère, France — 100% organic masala chai. Not the most widely known name in Spain, but the spice blend is serious.
- There are three ways to have it. Classic chai latte (hot or iced), iced chai year-round, and dirty chai with a shot of La Cabra espresso. Each one works for a different moment.
Where to find good chai latte near Platja d'Aro
Dirty Rabbit is in S'Agaró, Avinguda Platja d'Aro 275. Ten minutes from central Platja d'Aro.
We opened in November 2024. Awachai's masala chai has been on the menu from day one, alongside La Cabra coffee and Origo Bakery bread. The menu isn't long. It's thought out.
The dirty chai — chai latte plus espresso — is the one that gets the most questions. People order it out of curiosity and come back to it. Iced chai, which most places in the area either don't have or only offer in summer, we have year-round. Plant milk in all versions. €3.50 to €5.
Why chai latte is everywhere but good chai is rare
In Spain, chai latte has been on menus for years. The problem is that most places make it with syrup, which is cheaper, easier, and more consistent. Nothing wrong with that if you know what you're ordering. The issue is when it's presented as real chai without being it.
A quality organic masala blend costs more. But the difference in flavour is real — more complex, less sweet, with a depth that's closer to Indian cooking than to a soft drink.
Frequently asked questions about the best chai latte near Platja d'Aro
Why does chai latte vary so much from place to place?
Because there are two ways to make it: with a real spice blend (masala) or with concentrate. The result is completely different. Most places use concentrate — it's cheaper and simpler to prepare.
What makes the chai at Dirty Rabbit different?
We use Awachai, an organic masala chai from Isère, France. It's a real spice blend — cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper — not a concentrate. The flavour is more complex and less sugary than what you'll find at most places.
Is iced chai available in winter?
Yes, year-round. Iced chai isn't a seasonal option at Dirty Rabbit. The masala spices work well cold.
Is dirty chai very high in caffeine?
It has chai plus a shot of espresso, so more caffeine than either on its own. For someone who already drinks double espresso, it's comparable. For someone who doesn't normally drink coffee, it's noticeable.
How do I get to Dirty Rabbit from Platja d'Aro?
Ten minutes by car. Avinguda Platja d'Aro 275, S'Agaró. On the main road between Sant Feliu and Platja d'Aro. Parking across the road, large terrace, good morning light.
