Breakfast After the Camí de Ronda

The Camí de Ronda is one of the most beautiful coastal paths in Europe. Kilometres of trails between coves, cliffs and Mediterranean pines. But there's a practical problem nobody mentions: where do you have breakfast when you finish? This guide covers everything you need to know — what the Camí de Ronda is, the best stretches for a morning walk, and where to eat afterwards.

What is the Camí de Ronda?

The Camí de Ronda (or "Ronda Path") is a coastal trail that runs the entire length of the Costa Brava. Originally it was a surveillance path used by the Civil Guard to control smuggling in the 19th century. Today it's a network of trails connecting beaches, coves and villages along almost 200 kilometres of coastline.

It's not a single linear path, but a series of stretches you can do separately. Some are easy (walks along the sea), others more demanding (ups and downs along cliffs).

Practical Facts About the Camí de Ronda

  • Total length: ~200 km (from Blanes to Portbou)
  • Signage: White and red markers, like GR trails
  • Difficulty: Variable — from easy walks to technical stretches
  • Best time: Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October)
  • In summer: Possible, but better very early (before 9:00) to avoid heat

The Best Stretches for a Morning Walk

If you want to do a morning walk and then have breakfast, these are the most recommended stretches in the S'Agaró area:

Stretch 1: Sant Pol — S'Agaró — Sa Conca (2 km, 30–40 min)

Difficulty: Easy
Start point: Sant Pol Beach (south end)
End point: Cala Sa Conca

This is probably the most beautiful stretch of the entire Camí de Ronda. You pass below the noucentiste villas of S'Agaró, with views of the intense blue sea. The path is well maintained, with handrails in some areas.

For breakfast afterwards: Dirty Rabbit is 3 minutes' walk from the Sant Pol entrance.

Stretch 2: S'Agaró — Sant Feliu de Guíxols (3 km, 45–60 min)

Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Start point: Sant Pol Beach
End point: Sant Feliu seafront promenade

Continue from Sant Pol southward, skirting the coast to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. You pass several small coves and the old port of Canyet. The finish on Sant Feliu promenade has several eating options.

For breakfast afterwards: ANNNA or Maison Marcel in Sant Feliu.

Stretch 3: Platja d'Aro — Cala Rovira — Cala del Pi (4 km, 60–90 min)

Difficulty: Moderate
Start point: Platja Grande de Platja d'Aro (south end)
End point: Cala del Pi (direction Palamós)

More demanding, with ups and downs. You pass Cala Rovira (perfect for a swim halfway) and continue to the wilder coves towards Palamós. Spectacular views.

For breakfast afterwards: La Maglia in Platja d'Aro, or Zero in Palamós if you finish there.

Stretch 4: Sant Feliu — Tossa de Mar (23 km, 6–8 hours)

Difficulty: High
Start point: Sant Feliu de Guíxols
End point: Tossa de Mar

This one isn't for before breakfast — it's a full day. But if you want to do a long stretch, it's one of the most spectacular on the entire Costa Brava. Wild coves, pine forests, cliff views.

For breakfast before starting: Dirty Rabbit or ANNNA. Bring water and something to eat.

Tips for a Morning Walk

Best Time to Start

  • Summer (June-August): Leave at 6:30–7:30. By 10:00 it's already too hot.
  • Spring/Autumn: 8:00–9:00 is perfect. Beautiful light, pleasant temperature.
  • Winter: 9:00–10:00. Shorter days but empty paths.

Hydration

The most common mistake is underestimating the heat. Even if you walk early:

  • Bring at least 500ml of water for short stretches (1 hour)
  • Bring 1L or more for longer stretches
  • There are no fountains on most stretches — plan ahead

What to Bring

  • Shoes with good grip (not flip-flops, even if you see locals doing it)
  • Sunscreen, even if it's cloudy
  • Hat or cap
  • Swimsuit underneath — many stretches pass by coves where you'll want to swim

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do the Camí de Ronda with children?

The easy stretches yes (Sant Pol — S'Agaró, for example). With young children, avoid stretches with stairs or technical areas. Bring extra water and plan short stretches (30–45 min maximum).

Do you have to pay to use the Camí de Ronda?

No. It's a public path and free.

Can you go by bicycle?

Most stretches aren't suitable for bikes — they're narrow trails with stairs. There are exceptions (wider stretches), but generally it's walking only.

Is it safe to go alone?

Yes. Stretches near villages (Sant Pol, Sant Feliu, Platja d'Aro) are very busy, especially in the morning. More remote stretches (towards Tossa) are more solitary — let someone know your route if you go alone.

What happens if it rains?

The path becomes slippery in many areas — rocks, roots, stone steps. We recommend not doing technical stretches in rain. Easy stretches are possible with care.

Are there facilities (toilets, water) on the path?

Very few. Some beaches have beach bars in summer. Plan: bring water, use the toilet before starting.

The Best Plan: Walk → Swim → Breakfast

If the weather's good, this is the perfect plan:

  1. 7:30 — Set off walking from Sant Pol
  2. 8:15 — Arrive at a cove (Sa Conca, for example)
  3. 8:20 — Quick swim in the sea (will wake you up completely)
  4. 8:40 — Walk back
  5. 9:15 — Breakfast at Dirty Rabbit, still with wet hair

It's the Costa Brava at its purest.

After walking, pop into Dirty Rabbit — Avenida Platja d'Aro 275, S'Agaró. We're 3 minutes from Sant Pol. La Cabra coffee, toast with Benfumat salmon, and all the time you need to recover. Your home away from home.
